The Chronicles of Riddick

A fast-paced joy ride through a dark science fiction universe. Riddick's story picks up as merc bounty hunters are chasing him on a frozen planet. The plot thickens as he finds out he is probably the last living Furian, the one foretold to stop the Lord Marshall of the Necromongers. If you like this type of movie, you'll love this one. If you want every point explained, wait for the DVD release so you can have the director's commentary to explain it all to you.

This was decent SF material and the story flows well. A major weak detail is when they go on the surface of a planet that's supposed to have 300 degrees on the cool side, yet they survive the trek without special gear and only get a little sweaty. Right. Also, the alternate religion of the Necromongers is weakly explained and could have had a bit more info provided since it's such a big part of the story. As it is, they're just really bad bad guys that prey on each other as well as the helpless.

I will definitely go see the next one in the series, since they set it up so well and it was fun to watch. I took two 13-year-old boys, and their summary is, "Cool!" There's mild profanity, but major violence and general bleakness.
